Christmas Coffee Morning. December 6th 10-12 Holy Rood Schoolroom. To make our special event more enjoyable for everyone, we need volunteers who have ideas for stall and games etc. Please see Fr David with your suggestions. We also desperately need items for the tombola: bottles, chocolates etc and prizes etc for the other stalls. Please be generous and drop them off at the presbytery.

What‘s happening out and about?

Prayer of the Catholic Police Guild

Most Merciful God, giver of all authority, by the merits of Thy Divine Son and through the intercession of His Holy Mother and our glorious patron St. Michael, grant that we may this day and every day, overcome all temptations, especially to injustice and disloyalty, and with our minds inflamed by Thy Holy Spirit perform all our duties in such a manner as may be pleasing to Thy Divine Will, so that when called to report for the last time we may not be found wanting, and may be allowed to remain for ever in Thy Presence.  Through Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Young Adult meetings through October.  “Growing up in Liverpool, nearly everyone on my street was Catholic. My mum worked in the presbytery which was like a second home to us. And being part of the community was so important. It wasn’t only about going to Mass on Sundays. This has influenced my adult Catholic life with choices made about being active in my parish, volunteering, and work choices I have made. I look forward to meeting with you and hearing some of your stories too!”

In February 2025, four Diocesan Roadshows were held across the Diocese of Nottingham, bringing together clergy and parish representatives for prayer, presentations, and open dialogue about our shared future.  Almost 300 questions and comments were submitted, covering a very wide range of often complex issues.  Since then, the diocesan team and senior clergy have worked to compile, group, and respond to these contributions in a way that is honest, accurate, and accessible.  What began as a simple summary has grown into a much larger piece of work than first anticipated.  We are now pleased to share the full report, which gives a clear account of the roadshows, the issues raised, and the steps we are taking as we continue our journey towards becoming a more missionary, outward-looking Church.

Day of Healing – You are invited to join Bishop Patrick for a day of Freedom and Inner Healing led by ‘Unbound UK’.  The day will be held at Saint Barnabas Cathedral, Nottingham on Saturday 25th October.  There will be talks on freedom and healing, Mass with the Anointing of the Sick, Confession and Intercessory Prayer, and an Evening Healing Service with music from One Hope Project.  You can come from the full day or for any of the sessions.  It is open to all ages at no cost, but donations are welcome.  More information: www.dioceseofnottingham.uk/events or email formation@dioceseofnottingham.uk

Marriage Care is looking to appoint an Appointments Service Administrator (8 hours or more per week) and a Counselling Training Administrator (28 hours per week) in the Nottingham area.  More information can be found at www.marriagecare.org.uk

Saint Barnabas Cathedral, Nottingham will host the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima and relics of Saints Jacinta and Francisco on Sunday 12th and Monday 13th October, in commemoration of the Centenary of the Five First Saturdays devotion.  The Visitation will include a procession and enthronement of the Fatima statue, followed by Mass; opportunities to venerate the saints’ relics; praying the Rosary for world peace; and talks and videos about the Fatima messages.  A book table with devotional materials will be available, and attendees can enrol in the Brown Scapular devotion. For your information or assistance…

We have two email addresses that perform different roles. Just to clear any confusion here is a reminder.

holyroodchurchmr@outlook.com is the one to use to communicate with Fr. David directly re spiritual, personal, or ongoing matters.

holyroodmr@gmail.com  was set up in 2020 to deal with general enquiries, communication generated via the website, and third parties such as West Lindsey churches festival. These emails are initially looked at by the bulletin team and passed to Fr. David if appropriate.

God bless you all,
