Holy Rood Church open

For a trial period Holy Rood will be left open most days from 8:30am to 6pm so that people can pop in and pray. Please do avail yourself of the opportunity to be with our Lord. (The Blessed Sacrament will be reserved in the Tabernacle in the side (Lady chapel) during the week, and in the Tabernacle behind the main Altar on Sundays and feast days… look for the lit sanctuary lamp to be sure).

Volunteers needed. Please contact Keith if you can help out. We are open Saturday 17th from 12pm to 3pm and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. Refreshments will be available in the schoolroom.

What‘s happening out and about?

The Leadbeater Bill is due to return soon to the Commons for its final reading and vote.  If passed, this Bill will threaten the lives of many old and vulnerable people, and have a permanent impact upon how we view end of life care. But there is still time to oppose it, and many MPs are unsure about which way to vote.  On Tuesday 13th May at 7.30pm, in Cathedral Hall, Nottingham (NG1 5AE) there will be a presentation on practical actions we can take to oppose the bill. Speakers will be Alithea Williams of SPUC and Professor David Paton.  All are welcome.  For more information call 07757 815 625.

Join Bishop Patrick on the Diocesan Jubilee Pilgrimage to Walsingham on Saturday 14th June.  From 11:30am there will be youth activities in the Anglican Shrine.  The opening liturgy will be at 12:45pm with the procession to the Catholic Shrine.  At 3pm there will Divine Mercy and youth Stations, ending with Mass at 4pm.

What is God? Philosophical, Christian and Islamic Approaches, at the Christian Heritage Centre, between Friday 22nd and Monday 25th August.  This annual course in partnership with CEPHAS will look at the nature and knowledge of God from a pre-religious, philosophical understanding, before comparing the Islamic concept of God with the Christian, leaning on Saint Thomas Aquinas’ elaboration of the Trinity and the Incarnation.  For more information and to book: https://christianheritagecentre.com/events/what-is-god/

The NDCYS is organising  a Lourdes Reunion on Sunday 27th July at Saint Mary’s Church, Derby DE1 3AU.  Young people are invited from 11am, with Mass at 3pm, followed by refreshments for all pilgrims.  For more information and to register visit ndcys.com/events-and-opportunities

Jubilee of Communication Workers Conference  The Communications Department invites all involved or interested in communications (Social Media, Journalism, Website, Parish Newsletters, plus any other means…) to the upcoming Communications Conference, celebrating the Jubilee of Communication Workers. Held at Cathedral Hall, Nottingham, on Monday 2nd June from 10am – 2pm, the event will include a networking breakfast, a keynote input, workshops, Q&A, concluding with Mass celebrated by Bishop Patrick, with the blessing of communication workers, and lunch. Called to Love: Masculine and Feminine, Friday 9th – Sunday 11th May.  A weekend for young adults, whether single, dating or engaged, exploring the nature of masculinity and femininity.  The retreat, at the Christian Heritage Centre, Lancashire, will consider the contemporary challenges to being a man and a woman and the Church’s wisdom for this, drawing particular inspiration from Saint John Paul II.  For more information and to book visit https://christianheritagecentre.com/events/called-to-love/

The Health Team who support the Nottingham Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage is in need of some additional experienced team members for this year’s pilgrimage.  If you, or someone you know, is a currently Registered Nurses or trained and experienced Care Worker, who may be interested and can commit to being available for this year’s Jubilee Pilgrimage between Monday 14th and Friday 18th July, as well as for a couple of training days on Sunday 15th and Saturday 28th June, please contact Deacon David Knight (david@sthughslincoln.org.uk) for more details.

Could you be a Briars Ambassador for 12 months?  The Nottingham Diocesan Catholic Youth Service (NDCYS) has a wonderful group of volunteers who support The Briars Catholic Youth Retreat Centre
